Grandparents Parenting Children Fundraiser

Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren is a registered charity that has been dedicated to supporting grandparents who have taken on the important role of raising their grandchildren since its founding in 2000. Maygrove Village has had the pleasure of collaborating with and supporting this wonderful organization for some time now.

This year, Maygrove Village has been honoured to host the monthly meetings for Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren, and we are pleased to share our intention to continue this support into the next year as well. Thanks to the kind contributions of Maygrove residents, we were able to raise $340.00 through the sale of raffle tickets for two gift baskets filled with grocery items. Additionally, we organized a collection of Christmas gifts for the grandchildren, and we were truly touched by the overwhelming generosity of our residents.

Donna Taylor and Bjorn Modigh were graciously given the Christmas gifts, along with a cheque from the raffle proceeds, which will be thoughtfully allocated to support those in need this Christmas.

Maygrove Village's Melbourne Cup Day

Maygrove Village's Melbourne Cup Day was a roaring success! From fabulous costumes to delicious food, lively friendships, and even a few mischievous dinosaurs, the event was packed with fun and laughter. 🦖💃

A huge shoutout to our amazing Maygrove staff—especially Tracey and Elaine—for their hard work and dedication in bringing the day together. As Tracey says, "Teamwork makes the dream work," and they truly made yesterday unforgettable!

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to New World – Orewa and Paneton for their generous contributions to the raffle baskets and food prizes. Your support is truly appreciated! 🥂✨

Aged Advisor Awards 2024

For the 10th year in a row, Maygrove Village has been named a finalist (and in 2019, a winner) in the Aged Advisor People's Choice Awards for Best Large Retirement Village in the North Island!

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to share your wonderful reviews and support. We couldn't achieve this without our incredible community!

Next year, let's bring home the gold again!

Wrinkly Run at Maygrove Village

Every October, the Hibiscus Rodders Inc. hosts the Annual Wrinkly Run in aid of Age Concern. The event brings classic American cars to Victor Eaves Park, where club members load up their passengers—some lucky Maygrove residents among them—for a nostalgic cruise around the local roads.

This year, the destination for the beloved tradition was right here at Maygrove Village, where everyone gathered for a delightful afternoon of tea and scones. The residents were thrilled, reminiscing about the older model cars that some of them had once owned. It’s heartwarming for the club to give back to the senior members of our community, and the event is cherished by both the car enthusiasts and the residents who enjoy the memories it brings back.

24 Days of Christmas Promo

Maygrove Village’s Stage One Official Re-Opening

We celebrated a very special milestone at Maygrove Village yesterday, with the official re-opening of our bar and café, and entertainment area. "The new facility is nothing short of beautiful, and stands as a testament to the dedication Hopper Living has in providing a quality environment, in enhancing the lifestyle of our fantastic residents. The space is the residents’ sanctuary and the heart and soul of the Village, a place where cherished memories can be made and shared, where laughter can echo through the halls, and where fun and friendship can thrive." - Shana Hopper-McCully

Maygrove Village's Stage One Interior Re-opening

Maygrove Village’s Stage One interior redesign is complete! ✅

Last Friday was a very exciting day at Maygrove as residents were welcomed into the interior of their freshly renovated common area. While we still have to complete the outside work we were thrilled to see our residents investigating the new layout, making themselves at home again and getting acquainted with their new look café. We are so grateful for the trust the residents placed in us and the patience they have extended to us while we have gone through this renovation. The re-opening put all the hard work into perspective and it was wonderful to hear how for so many we have not only met but exceeded their expectations. Thanks must go to our village team, they are very tired but very happy after all the lovely comments from the residents.

Enjoy watching a quick video of the day below.

Grandies Fundraiser

Maygrove Village is proud to support HBC Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren Group. Every month we provide a space for the group to meet and include a hot lunch to nourish the team. At this month’s meeting, we surprised the group with a fundraiser we had put together in secret, where our team at Maygrove got creative and painted some artwork for a blind auction. Our fantastic contractors, residents, and the wider Hopper team supported the cause by purchasing the paintings where we raised a total of $2653.00, and on Wednesday we surprised the GPGG by presenting them with a cheque of the funds we raised.

Welcoming The New

At our 20th Celebration in August 2022, we announced to our residents that our Village will be getting a brand-new refresh of our common areas. This will be managed in stages to ensure there is minimal disruption to our Village Residents, and the results are well worth it. At completion Maygrove Villages’ main building will have a brand-new café/restaurant and bar area extending out to the outdoor patio, a new look, a modern foyer and reception area with up-to-date staff premises, and a face-lift for our beauty salon, pool, gym, and multi-purpose area. Building construction will commence mid-2023.

Celebration - Gatsby Style

On Saturday evening our residents, staff, and shareholders celebrated the night away, Gatsby-style. Our Team transformed the Village restaurant, bar, and dancefloor into a glamourous 1920’s style theme. Attendees looked gorgeous as they dressed to the theme in sequins, feathers, and pearls. Food and bubbles flowed throughout the evening as the three-piece band serenaded the crowd. We all had a fantastic night celebrating a huge milestone, seeing Maygrove Village reach its 20th year.

MGV Gatsby Night

Maygrove Village turns 20 years old

This August, Maygrove Village celebrates its 20th Birthday, and this week the residents, staff, friends, and family came together to celebrate with speeches, stories of the past, present and future, cumulating in a cake cutting ceremony, with all enjoying a glass of bubbles and slice of cake. This event was the start of a month-long celebration which commemorates all whom have been involved since Maygrove’s inception.

Maygrove Village holds a special place in many people’s hearts, and this was apparent while attending the ceremony, especially to witness the delightful residents who’ve embraced the Hopper lifestyle. It was obvious the residents enjoy a vibrant social culture, and love living at the Village. It was equally apparent that the village and hospital staff authentically care for, and enjoy the residents’ company. The Village has maintained a sense of team, even with the challenges and trying times that retirement villages have faced during recent Covid times. The long-standing staff members and original residents who still reside at Maygrove were honoured as an integral part of the Maygrove legacy. Speeches were given by Don Shaw (one of the first residents), who praised Maygrove for being a haven during Covid lockdowns and expressed how lucky he felt to be at Maygrove. We also heard from Village Manager Leonie Knell, Hopper Developments CEO, Tim Brooks, who has just celebrated his 40th year at Hoppers, and Shana Hopper-McCully, the Brand & Strategy Development Manager and part of the third generation of Hoppers in the family business. Shana reminisced about time spent with her brothers collecting kauri gum and swedes amongst the clay and topsoil during the development of the Maygrove site. She also recalled times, at 14 years old, of being grounded and made to vacuum the hallways after school as a punishment. Leigh Hopper was unfortunately unable to attend the celebration but sent his regards and his recognition of the milestone in the evolution of the Village.

“With a dedicated team it has developed into a well-regarded establishment. I cannot place enough praise on our wonderful staff, particularly during recent and continuing Covid challenges. It is their efforts that deliver such a fantastic culture and makes us all so proud to be associated with Maygrove. I’m sure I speak for residents in this regard also. The bricks and mortar may be up to 20 years old now but the next few years will see a major face lift contributing to the quality lifestyle enjoyed.”

Maygrove Village’s signature Art Deco building has always set them apart from the rest, but the face lift scheduled for later this year involving a major refurbishment of the common amenity areas including the café, foyer, library, pool, gym and outdoor seating areas will take the Village to a higher level again.
